The Little Sisters of the Poor at Saint Augustine Home are visiting our parish community the weekend of September 14/15 to ask for our support for their mission of caring for the neediest elderly. Since 1873, the Little Sisters of the Poor have cared for over 6,500 needy Elderly in Indianapolis and central Indiana. For close to 95 years, their Home was on East Vermont Street in the Lockerbie Square Historic District of the city and since 1968 at their present location on West 86th Street and Township Line Road (next to Ascension St Vincent Hospital).
Just as Saint Jeanne Jugan, the Congregation’s Foundress was recognized by her begging basket, today’s begging Little Sisters bring their baskets on weekends to parishes asking for support. At other times, they visit businesses, markets, organizations and individuals asking for anything and everything that will help their Residents eat well, feel safe, feel contented, and feel cared for with respect and dignity. During their visit they also will invite us to pray for Vocations to their religious Congregation which operates 160 Homes in 31 countries.
